Twin crystals
Minerals presenting twinned crystals, a twin is an oriented association of several identical crystals, called individuals, connected by an operation of point group of symmetry. Individual crystals of the same mineral species and shape can be linked by an element of symmetry, forming macles, consisting of two, three, or multiple individuals. Macle comes from the Latin macula (spot, mesh), a historical quirk, the English term corresponds to the crystallographic phenomenon.
