Plate covered with small, very bright quartz crystals, sometimes bi-terminated, slightly tinted pink by hematite inclusions. the whole is covered with pyrite grains.
This specimen comes from the Bierghes quarry, located in the province of Brabant Wallon, 30 km west of Brussels.
A plutonic magmatic rock is extracted for the manufacture of cobblestones and ballast. Large pockets of quartz crystals have been unearthed. In contrast to the rather young alpine quartz, these crystals are over 300 million years old.
