Plate of very pure quartz crystals with variously colored hematite and chlorite inclusions, some crystals display the Muzo habitus.
This elegant specimen comes from the Bierghes quarry, located in Walloon Brabant, 30 km from Brussels.
This quarry exploits plutonic magmatic rock for the production of cobblestones and ballast.
Pockets of very clear quartz crystals reminiscent of Alpine facies (developed prism, Dauphiné habitus) were discovered in this quarry. These quartz are much older than those linked to the Alpine orogeny, at 300 million years. The magazine “Le Règne Minéral” devoted an article to this gite and its museum-quality productions.
