Biterminated and recrystallized quartz crystal, partially coated with partially altered hematite. This specimen comes from the Bierghes quarry in the province of Brabant Wallon, 30 km west of Brussels, Belgium.
The quarried rock is a diorite of plutonic magmatic origin, and has yielded pockets of superb quartz of varied facies.
These crystals are over 300 million years old. The magazine “Le Règne Minéral” devoted an article to this highly reputed Belgian deposit.
