Magnificent, imposing, almost gem-like gypsum crystals of changing color.

These crystals feature a classic spearhead-shaped macle.

This specimen of gypsum crystals comes from the Lambert quarry in Cormeilles-en-Parisis, in the Val d’Oise region of the Paris Basin.

Opened in 1822 by Pierre Etienne Lambert, the Cormeilles-en-Parisis quarry made plaster of Paris famous.
More than 200 years later, it still has a major economic impact, accounting for 10% of national gypsum production and 15% of that of the Ile de France region.

Given the exceptional purity of its gypsum, around 60% of France’s plaster exports come from Cormeilles-en-Parisis.
