Description
Antique wooden matchbox containing numerous pieces of green garnierite.
Garnierite is not a mineral species, but a generic term covering several nickel-bearing phyllosilicate species.
Their high nickel content makes them sought-after nickel ores.
Mining engineer Jules Garnier is credited with the discovery of this nickel ore.
From Népoui, New Caledonia.
