Description
Veneer of green Bayldonite crystals discovered in 1975.
Also known as the Cap Garonne mine, the Garonne mine is the French deposit that has provided the most mineral species (139 in total): Adamite, Arsenogorceixite, Azurite, Brochantite, Chlorargyrite, Cornwallite, Zeunérite…
Historically a copper mine abandoned in 1917, it was the playground of numerous mineralogists until its rehabilitation as a museum. It’s a fine example of our country’s valorisation…
Now inaccessible, finding macro minerals from this mine is becoming difficult, as the fame and nostalgia of the deposit have made the presence on the market of these great classics of French mineralogy rare.
For your information, the Garonne mine is located some fifteen kilometers southeast of Toulon, in the Var region (South of France).
