Description
This autunite specimen features delicate, bright yellow flakes on a red gangue, typical of the Peny quarry in the Haute-Vienne department.
Under the generic name of “Mine(s) de Margnac”, eleven operations produced uranium, including the Margnac I and II deposits, Pény, la Vauzelle… Some of these operations were underground mines, others were open-cast mines (MCO).
With all the mines in Limousin now exhausted and closed, it is impossible to find this type of mineralogical specimen in the field.
Specimen from the Jean Ventenat collection.
Good uranium-bearing specimen from the Limousin region.
