Mont-Blanc Minerals (Chamonix)
The Mont-Blanc massif produces some fantastic minerals, notably smoky quartz or morion (black), sometimes twisted, called gwindel, or pink or red fluorite crystals. Other mineral species include epidote, hematite, adularia, scheelite, molybdenite, brookite and anatase. The Chamonix valley also has other types of deposits and mineralogy, as do the slopes of Savoy, Italy and Switzerland, with their varied geology.
